Barrett Stories: Meet the Reis-Aguilera Family
What do you do when your dream house appears when you least expect it? For Jamie Ries and Mely Aguilera, they called in Barrett Realtor, Bob Champey.
“We were living in Maynard and had just had our second baby two weeks ago,” Jamie Ries recalls. “Mely’s family was visiting from Spain to celebrate the baby’s arrival. That’s when we found out that a house was being sold by owner right around the corner from my mother in Belmont. We didn’t want to miss this opportunity.”
The couple had bought their house in Maynard five years ago from Bob Champey, so they called him up with the news that they needed to sell their home in Maynard ASAP.
“Bob was fantastic,” says Mely Aguilera. “He came prepared with research on other homes that had sold in our neighborhood and around town and stepped us through the different tradeoffs of pricing versus time on the market.”
The couple decided on a price and prepared their home for sale (while Mely’s family tended baby Sophia and her two-year-old sister Daphne).
The open house on November 8 was well advertised, well attended, and brought in a solid offer. Despite tight timeframes and a slow pre-holiday real-estate market, everything went like clockwork.
Jamie recalls, “An image that comes to mind about Bob’s dedication to getting things done is of him standing on the roof of his car to photograph our house from the perfect angle.”
The Ries/Aguileras bought their new home in Belmont directly from the owner, but Bob assisted them with the purchase as well, even though he wouldn’t get a commission.
“Bob really helped us achieve our dream,” says Jamie. “It was a direct sale, but he advised us on what to ask for and how to keep the process moving. He took it upon himself to provide comparables of other homes that sold in Belmont so we would understand the current market there.”
The Ries/Aguilera family finalized the sale of their Maynard home on Dec. 17 and closed on their new dream home on January 6 -- less than three months from start to finish.
“We couldn’t have done it without Bob Champey and Barrett,” Mely says.
