Barbara Hirsch and her husband Chris Herpers loved their condo in Arlington but began to yearn for something more. It was the familiar siren’s call of a larger home, a yard, and a leafy community with excellent schools for their children.
“I started exploring Internet sites, such as Boston.com,” recalls Barbara. “I found a house that looked interesting, and that’s where I met Barrett Realtor, Charles Letovsky. It was his listing and although the house wasn’t right for us, we liked his knowledge and approachability.”
Charles offered to put Barbara on his MLS notifications email so her Internet searching would be up-to-the-minute. They talked about what the family was looking for in terms of house style and location.
“My husband and I appreciated his no-pressure manner. We felt comfortable
looking at houses with him.
Letovsky has been involved in real-estate for many years and also owned a residential remodeling and construction company for 25 years. Not only was he knowledgeable about the communities west of Boston, but he was also able to talk with the couple about renovations and budget implications for houses they toured.
While they looked at houses, the Hirsch/Herpers put their Arlington condo on the market with a local seller’s agent.
Letovsky continued as their buyer’s agent.
“We particularly loved a house in Sudbury that Charles showed us but had to let it go because our condominium hadn’t sold. Charles patiently worked with us and reassured us that another house would come up,” says Barbara.
When their condo went under agreement in June 2010, the couple was ready to make their move. Charles suggested they expand their search and look at homes for sale in Acton. Initially they felt it was a bit far from the city, but they agreed to take a look.
“I fell in love with a house in Acton. I knew right when I walked in,” says Barbara. “And yet it was completely different from what we thought we wanted.”
The couple had been focusing on older split-level-style houses because they seemed practical, open, and Barbara could use her interior-design expertise to make them special. “But then I walked into this Victorian farmhouse in Acton. I called my husband to say, ‘Okay guys I found the house.’”
Barbara and Chris wrote a letter to the sellers as part of their offer. “It’s something I like to do when I purchase a house,” she says. The deal went smoothly and the family moved in August 2010.
“Our Realtor Charles and the Barrett agency were very helpful,” says Barbara. “We looked for six months, and Charles patiently showed me any community or house that I was interested in. He ultimately guided us to a house that we hadn’t considered but now realize was the one for us.”
