Carlisle, Massachusetts, is a quiet town located in the heart of the Nashoba Valley. Historic Concord Center is just five miles away, and Carlisle high school students attend Concord-Carlisle High School in Concord. In 2007, Carlisle was rated by Boston Magazine as the healthiest of 146 towns in Eastern Massachusetts.

To preserve its quite, small-town atmosphere, Carlisle eschews industry, apartment dwelling, and condominium development and has a two-acre zoning regulation to further ensure the pastoral landscape. But its idyllic setting is in an excellent commuting location and is close to Routes 2, I-95, 128, 225, and I-495. Boston and Cambridge are a 30 to 40 minute drive to the south, while the beaches of Cape Ann and the North Shore are the same distance to the north. Public transportation to Boston via the Commuter Rail is an eight-minute drive to Concord Center.

Housing stock ranges from historic New England colonial homes to modernist homes situated to take advantage of woodland and field views. The town also has an abundance of conservation-recreation land and hiking and cross-country skiing trails, some of which abut the town's own cranberry bogs. A popular destination in Carlisle is Great Brook Farm State Park, which provides groomed ski trails in the winter, horseback riding and hiking trails, and a working dairy farm and ice cream operation year round.
